Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure,’ (Isaiah 46:9-10 NKJV)
Do you recall a time when you knew the peace of God in your life, more than you do today? Was your deeper peace caused by more peaceful surroundings and circumstances, or were things in your life perhaps a little less than ideal, but you had peace anyway? Well, that’s one of the awe-inspiring things about God…He can give us peace in the midst of anything we may face. I’ve learned that firsthand through many difficulties, but especially over the past year, life has been a rollercoaster with a lot of major changes that have come my way. The one constant for me has been that I have lived in the peace of God, which truly passes all understanding. Sometimes, even when that peace was solely because nothing made sense to me, except that I knew He was with me, He was actively engaged in my life even when I wasn’t able to see what He was doing, and that His faithfulness would become evident in His perfect timing.
People endure all sorts of hurdles in life. One of the reminders that I have needed God to give me through this recent rollercoaster ride filled with so many highs and lows, is that I don’t ever need to strive to make any particular thing happen as I think it should. He has a plan for my life, and today is included in that plan. His plans for me aren’t only going to take place in my future, but in my present as well. One step leads to the next, day by day more of God’s plan will unfold. As that happens, I will be developed, refined and transformed, so that I can become the person He created me to be. His plan for all of us is that over time, we will become more like Him.
It is helpful when we are able to look back at the things God has done for us in the past. He is God. He can do anything and everything – “yesterday, today and forever.” The possibilities are endless! That has not, and will never change. This Scripture refers to “things that are not yet done,” and there is more to come for each of us. God’s not finished with us yet. That inspires me to stay hopeful about the future. God gives good gifts to those who ask Him. (Matthew 7:11)
My prayer is, “Heavenly Father, please help me to remember the things You have done for me in the past. I know I am still “a work in progress,” so thank you for working in my life as you do. The refining process is not always easy, but I trust You with my life. I believe that you have good gifts for me, and I ask You for them, in the timing that is best for me. Amen.”
