It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he causes me to stand on the heights. He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. You make your saving help my shield, and your right hand sustains me; your help has made me great. You provide a broad path for my feet, so that my ankles do not give way. (Psalm 18:32-36 NIV)
Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve recognized that our Salvation, and our adoption as children of God, has been made possible through the death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ. We belong to Him, and are part of His family.
In this third blog of our four-part series, let’s take the next step in discovering how we can become the people that God created us to be, with His help.
Psalm 145:3 (NIV) says, “Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom.” No human is worthy of praise. Praiseworthiness is God’s alone. However, we are created in His image, and Psalm 18:35 (NIV) tells us that “You make your saving help my shield, and your right hand sustains me; your help has made me great.” [Emphasis mine]
With each and every passing day, God can enable us to accomplish things that in our own strength would be impossible.
I have shared about my battle with low self-esteem and insecurity. In my journey of healing in that area, God has shown me that the antidote to my feelings of low self-worth is learning a greater reliance on Him. It’s no longer about what I can or cannot accomplish on my own, instead, it is about what God can accomplish in and through me.
Eph. 3: 20-21 (NIV) says, “ Now to him who is able to do more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”
There is no limit to what God is able to do and wants to do, in and through each of us – yes, that includes YOU. I know that may seem impossible from where you are today, but it’s not. It’s not about you, it’s about HIM. I was very thankful when I came to realize that.
Being great is not something we need to strive for. It’s a part of our inheritance, a gift that is freely given to us by our heavenly Father. The manifestation of that greatness, will likely appear different in each of our lives. The key is remembering to keep our hands firmly grasping His…”HE Makes YOU Great!!!” As Eph. 2:8-10 (NIV) says, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Are you willing to rely on Him, so that He can shape you into the person that He created you to be? Are you able to trust Him to bring increase and fruitfulness into your life that humanly would be impossible?
In my next blog, “He Makes YOU New,” we will conclude our four-part series. We will look back over the four blogs to review what God has done for us. Then, we will look at what it means to be made new.
My prayer is, Heavenly Father, thank you for creating each of us in Your image. Thank you for making us great, and that by your grace, we can live in your perfect plan for us, despite our human frailties. Please help us to walk in your way, more and more each day. In Jesus’ Name, AMEN.
