Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:7 ESV)
We all have choices to make in our daily lives. When we choose to follow God in our actions and behave according to His ways, we submit to Him and His authority. At the same time as we choose to submit to God in our actions, we are also making another choice, and that is to resist the devil. When we do that, the promise of God is that he [the devil], will flee from us.
I used to think of this “fleeing” as something that would take place in the future, but then I realized that the words submit, resist, and flee, are all action words that refer to the present. I believe it is God’s desire that I live in freedom and victory this very day. Yes, I do live with physical challenges, but that is not a true commentary of my overall victory or defeat in life. That is a choice, and I choose to be more than a conqueror, as Scripture says that I can be, “through Him who loved me.” For me, that means approaching the daily challenges I face with the attitude, “heavenly Father, I’m willing to do anything you ask of me. Thank you for strengthening me and enabling me to do all that I need to do.”
You have the opportunity to experience that victory as well!
