Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:12-13 NIV)
Do you ever look at another person and think to yourself that they have a perfect life with perfect children, they have a beautiful home which is always spotless, they have a perfect spouse/marriage, they are financially secure, they are active and healthy, they go to church every Sunday – they have everything a person could ever want? Do you believe that God listens to your prayers as much as He listens to theirs?
At times, we can feel over-whelmed with a sense of unworthiness or inadequacy for God to pay any attention to us. Yet, as we look at today’s Scripture, we see that there are no names next to God’s promises, which means they are meant for everyone, without exception. God promises each of us that when we pray to Him – He will listen to us, and that when we seek Him wholeheartedly – we will find Him.
All God asks of any of us is that we come to Him in honesty and sincerity. We don’t need to be eloquent or say everything exactly right, but we do need to be honest with Him. He knows everything about us anyway. Prayer is communication between God and us, and it is the basis of our relationship with Him, which was made possible by the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. He desires a relationship with each of us so He offers the invitation to us, to come and find Him. This invitation is freely given to us by our heavenly Father, all we need to do is accept it.
There have been times in my life when I was convinced that God didn’t want to hear from me…other people were more important to Him than me, so I really shouldn’t bother Him. Thankfully, I don’t think like that anymore, for the most part anyway. I still have days when I am tempted to go back into that way of thinking, but I am so glad that I can count on God’s words of truth to bring me back to Him again. As I spend more time with Him in prayer and reflecting on His Word, I am strengthened. I am more aware of His love, His peace and His grace (His undeserved favor). I will never be able to earn any of these things, but He freely gives them to me.
His invitation to each of us is to come and find Him. Psalm 119:2 says, “Blessed are those who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart.” May you be blessed today!
My prayer is, heavenly Father, thank you for inviting each of us to come to you, for listening to us and for your blessings in our lives. Please help us to seek after you with our whole hearts, fully trusting that You love us unconditionally. Because of Your great love for us, You have given us Your Word, the Bible, so that we would know how we should live in peace and in communion with You. AMEN.
