For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every familyin heaven and on earth derives its name. (Ephesians 3:14-15 NIV)
Have you ever wondered where you fit into this enormous world? Why am I here? Why was I born?
We were created to be in fellowship with our heavenly Father, Almighty God, but we were separated from Him because of sin. Through the death and glorious resurrection of God’s only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, it is possible for us to be re-connected with God. Through Jesus Christ, we have the opportunity to become sons and daughters of Almighty God, if we choose to do so. Then, we can become a part of the family of God.
I had an experience this past week that I honestly think has changed my life forever. I have never given birth, nor will I ever have that experience. However, at 3:20 AM on Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, I had the awesome pleasure of seeing my youngest Great-Niece come into this world. In that moment, I witnessed a miracle. I’ve loved her from the first moment that I knew she was in her Mama’s womb. But, in that moment of seeing her for the first time and holding her just minutes after her birth, I was wrapped up in the wonder of her. God had created this little girl. She had been knit together in her mother’s womb. She is fearfully and wonderfully made.
This beautiful little girl doesn’t have a name yet that she will be known by. However, as I looked at her, it was very real to me that God already knows her name. He has a place carved out for her in this world. She fits into His grand design of Creation. He already knows the plans He has for her. He knows the extraordinary and unique things she will do in her lifetime. He knows the exact number of hairs on her head. He knew all these things before she ever took her first breath.
The same God that did all these things for this little girl, did the very same for you. He loves you, just as he loves her. He knows your name! He knows you intimately enough to know the exact number of hairs on your head as well…regardless of the number of years you have been on this earth.
God knows the answers to the questions we ask ourselves about our purpose in this world. I encourage you to reverently go to Him in prayer, and ask Him. He longs to commune with you. Jeremiah 33:3 NIV assures us, “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”
My prayer is, “Heavenly Father, thank you for creating me and giving me life. Thank you that you have great plans for me. Thank you that I can come to you in prayer through Jesus Christ. Please help me to be more confident in Your love for me and that You know everything about me, even when I doubt these things. Please help me to call on you more often and to live in anticipation that you will answer me. AMEN.
