Let the saints be joyful in glory; Let them sing aloud on their beds. Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, And a two-edged sword in their hand, (Psalm 149:5-6 NKJV)
Has there ever been a time in your life when you wondered, “Why me?” In reality, every person endures some type of hardship throughout life’s journey, and for some, those hardships seem to come more frequently than for others. As long as we are on this earth, we will deal with struggles of one kind or another, from time to time.
It isn’t natural for us to be joyful when everything seems to be going wrong for us. Yet, Scripture tells us that “the joy of the Lord is your strength.” Likewise, it isn’t normal for us to rest in the midst of pandemonium, but Scripture tells us, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Seems odd, right? Well, it does sound odd, and on our own, it would be impossible. We are not alone though, as God is always faithful and He remains close to us in every situation. He will help us through anything and everything, all we have to do is invite Him to help us.
The Word of God, the Bible, is referred to in Ephesians 6:17 as the “sword of the Spirit.” In our dealings with Satan, the enemy of our souls, or everyday fallacies that we encounter, we can be confident that our greatest “weapon” is the words that were spoken by our heavenly Father in His Word. As Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
Whatever comes your way, I encourage you not to be fearful, or weighed down by feeling the need to be self-sufficient and to fix all of life’s problems yourself. Whatever the problem, bring it to God in prayer, thank and praise Him with peace, as you know He will deal with it for you. You can depend on Him. Then, you can peacefully rest while you watch as, “He will fight for you,” just as His Word says He will do. Only God can do that. Praise His holy name!
My prayer is, “Lord, I thank you that you will fight for me in all of life’s struggles. When things are difficult for me, please help me to look to Your Word for all I need. Please help me to rest and not be anxious while I wait to see what you will do for me. Praise, honor and glory be to God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Amen.”
