The Lord confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them. My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only he will release my feet from the snare. (Psalm 25:14-15 NIV)
Do you feel fearful about the future?
In today’s world, media reporting is filled with stories of events that can give us grounds for fear and concern. Between natural disasters, accidental occurrences, human behaviors and inadequate living conditions, there are many things that grab our attention.
In this season of life, many of the people I love most in the world; my family and close circle of friends, are going through a difficult time for various reasons. Health issues are rampant, as well as numerous other problems.
Thankfully, those who know me well, know me as someone with a strong faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. However, I would be dishonest if I implied that I never felt the challenge of living by faith and not by sight, as 2 Cor. 5:7 says I should.
Many times in Scripture, Jesus tells us to “fear not,” but I have found that to be an ongoing challenge for me. I experience victory over fear in one area of life by choosing to live by faith. Then, in no time, I am tempted to be afraid of something else.
Sometimes I am tardy about spending time with the Lord in prayer. I can be easily side-tracked by any number of trivial things that seem to be important at the time. When I choose to rest in His presence for a while, I am always strongly aware of His awesomeness, and by comparison, my weakness. He blesses me with His sweet presence, without hesitation, as soon as I direct my attention His way. He is faithful to me at all times.
The questions and concerns on my heart differ each time that I quiet myself before the Lord. He knows me very well, better than I know myself actually, so He knows exactly what I need; encouragement, direction, comfort, correction, etc. Daily, I am blessed beyond measure when I call to Him and He answers me as He promises to do in Jer. 33:3 (NIV), when He says, “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”
As 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV) tells us, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” Through it, He has provided guidance for us. It is God’s desire that we be familiar with what His word says. Then, when we are faced with any uncertainties, the Holy Spirit is faithful to bring to our remembrance the things we need to know, when we ask for His help.
We can take comfort in knowing that when we look to God and His Word for the answers we need, He will be faithful to showing us which way we should go. We need not fear what will happen in the future because we can be confident that God will give us what we need, when we need it.
My prayer is, “Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word. Thank you that through Your Holy Spirit, You will give us what we need when we diligently seek You. Please help me to understand Your Word, the Bible, more each day. May I always keep my eyes on You in every situation. In Jesus’ Name, AMEN.
