Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV)
This passage says, “Be anxious for nothing,” but for some people that is hard to do. Does it come naturally to you, not to worry and be anxious about your life?
For me, it is an ongoing challenge, but this passage offers some great advice as to how to live in peace, instead of worry and torment. Our journeys toward peace begin with prayer. When we bring every concern in our hearts to God in prayer, we are reminded that we are not alone because we’ve had opportunity to share our burdens with Him. He is right there with us, He hears us and He cares about our lives.
When we choose to be thankful in the midst of our stressful circumstances, something miraculous happens. Our focus becomes more about what God has done for us in the past, and that gives us reason to trust Him in the present. Then, we can live in peace because we anticipate His faithfulness, even before we are able to see Him move in the situation at hand.
Over recent times, God’s plans for me are unfolding in such a way that requires me to do things that are taking me outside my “comfort zone” in many ways. As I am willing to step out in faith to do those things, I do so prayerfully, fully expecting and being thankful for God’s goodness and faithfulness. He has never let me down, and I am genuinely experiencing “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding.”
My prayer for today is, “Lord, Thank you for everything you have done for me in the past and are going to do in the future. I trust that you will go before me and prepare the way, so that all of my needs will be met, when I arrive at the place you have planned for me.”
