Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so? (Amos 3:3 NIV)
This verse of Scripture contains an important question for us to consider…“Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?” That leads me to another question that I think is worth considering… Does your life show that you have chosen to live in agreement with God?
Both “walk” and “agreed” are action words. We have the freedom to choose who or what we will actively live/walk in agreement with. We are free to choose for ourselves what we will accept as truth and what we will disbelieve.
With the many new things happening in my life these days, there are many differing opinions being passed my way. There are theories about what I should or shouldn’t do regarding everything from leisure activities to ministry and so on. It can get a little scary and confusing at times as I endeavor to know the right things to do. I can be a “people pleaser” at times, which oftentimes leads me to greater confusion than I started with. I want to please everyone, and everyone has a different opinion so – “who should I really aim to please?” Unequivocally, the answer to that question is my heavenly Father. Of that I am certain, but actually doing it can be challenging at times, especially when others don’t necessarily understand or agree with my decisions.
The best approach that I have found to keep me from being too baffled, is to stay connected to Jesus through prayer and Bible reading. The more committed I am to both, the more relaxed and peaceful I am. If I spend time each day in God’s presence, I am able to stand strong through anything that comes my way, and my decisions are more synchronized with the mind of Christ.
I am reminded of the Scripture that says, “Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:4-5 NIV)
My prayer is, “Lord, thank you that by Your Holy Spirit you guide us into the way of truth. I confess that I need your help to navigate all of life’s twists and turns. Thank you for inviting each of us into Your presence through Your Son, Jesus Christ, and for giving us Your Word, the Bible, to direct our paths. In Jesus’ Name, AMEN.
